Dubai for a Visit


We are very blessed by beeing able to welcome a lot of friends to visit us in Dubai. To prepare them, I always send them a list of things to do. And I thought it might be helpful to other people. So these are the things I recommend you and I also wrote how long it will take and how much it will cost.

One side-note. In Dubai everything takes longer, so don't plan to much at one day. Rather enjoy 2 things :)


Must-Does (in my and our guests opinions)

  • Desert-tour (max 300AED, ~3pm-11pm, with BBQ, Camel Ride, ...), e.g from Arabian Tours or Desert Rangers or one of our friends Tariq is offering it as well for a little bit less (click here for visit his side)
    All our visitors loved this one! I will mention some cheaper options for it later.
  • The biggest Mall in Dubai: "Dubai Mall" and the tallest Building of the World "Burj Khalifa" (Mall is free, Visit the Tower: 100AED or 400AED, a whole afternoon/evening), stop here in the evening (or for sunset), for shopping, aquarium, fountains (from 6pm every 30min, they also have 2 afternoon shows)
    All our visitors loved the mall and the fountains. I myself didn't enjoy going on top of the Burj Khalifa that much. I think a Desert-Tour is much better! But if you want to go on top of Burj Khalifa, you should book the ticket in advance for 100aed (click here) instead of normally 400aed. The only risk you have in buying in advance, that you never know in Dubai, if there is a nice view and it is actually worth it. But what I really enjoyed was the kind of museum they offer before you actually go to the observation desk. You can learn a lot about the Burj and how it was build and more.
  • A City-Tour (Price depends, At least half a day) The best way to do this is having a friend driving you around. Then you can visit whatever you want :)
    A cheap way to do it is a metro-sight-seeing tour do-it-yourself     (max14aed for metro + taxi costs)
    1. get a free big bus tour map (has all the sights on it, get it e.g. in Mall of the Emirates) and a metro map or download it (the Metro line goes perfect through the city)
    2. Find the sights you want to visit, compare the maps and take the metro stops near the sights or just stay in the metro and watch the city running by :)
    3. Take taxis to the sights (see how to reach sights later)
    BUT you can also do a hop-on-hop-off city tour on double-layer-bus (around 300 AED) with big bus tours or wonderbus (on ground and in water). Check also my post about cheaper ways later!

Other Things to do:

  • Mall of the Emirates - nice Mall with the Ski-Hall
  • Burj Al Arab - nice Hotel, only from outside (if you want to go inside you need to have a reservation and a minimum spend)
  • Souq Madinat Jumeirah - nice Mall, looks like a old souq, nice to take pictures of "Burj Al Arab", but expensive, nice to have some food
    We normally take our visitors here one night to the restaurant "Al Makan", it can get expensive there, but if you do the following you will spend around 200 AED for 4 people:
    • Order together and share the following (Eat Starters and Main Courses together with a lot of bread (bread is free, so ask for more if you want): 3 of these Starters: Hummus, Moutabel, Fatoush, Tabouleh and 2 of these Grills: Shish Tawouk (Chicken Kebab), some Lamb (try Lamb here, it tastes nowhere else in the World like here in Dubai), some Beef or take 2 mixed grills (more expensive)
    • Ask for the local pop, this is the only restaurant serving it once in a while
  • JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence) Walk and Beach or Marina Walk - it's  in the evening for some nice drinks at the beach or even go into the water at this free city beach (very busy :))
  • Water Parks (100AED-200AED, full day): That's a fun thing to do for the whole family. Water Parks in the UAE are nearly everywhere. There are 2 in Dubai and 2 in the surrounding areas. I prefer the Wild Wadi one before the Atlantis one. Wild Wadi has everything and more than Atlantis. And there are also IceLand and Dreamland, which I haven't visited yet. I will mention some cheaper options for it later.
  • Dubai Creek (for free, half/whole day) - experience the old town Dubai with it's spice and gold souq and the Abra! Go to Al Ghubaiba Metro Station. Go to the ground level. Here you see the heritage village. You can go there or/and then walk to the Abra-Stop. The Abra is a traditional Water Taxi, which takes you over the creek for 1 AED (ask which one is the 1AED one). Then on the other side of the creek you find the spice and the gold souq. On your way to Al Ras Metro-Station ask for the Heritage-House. Which is a great display of traditional Emirati Living. Enjoy a free cup of traditional tea or coffee there!
  • Dubai Heritage Village - do it together with the Creek, same Metro Station...
  • Dubai museum - also in the Creek area
  • Dinner Dhow Cruise (70-200AED with Dinner) - that's a great way to finish a day. It's at the creek, exit Rashid-Bin-Al-Waleed Metro Station and either walk or take a taxi down there. Either prebook or book as you go (more expensive...) I will mention some cheaper options for it later. 
  • Abu Dhabi - if you have enough time, you can rent a car and go and visit Abu-Dhabi. Get a Big Bus Map for free (e.g. in Mall of the Emirates) and you have all the sights they have there. I would recommend a day trip. Go and visit Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the Corniche Beach, Emirate Palace (no shorts allowed here) and the little Mall.
  • Dibba and Fujairah - you can also rent a car and drive over to the other side of the UAE. Our visitors normally like that. We drive buy the Friday Market where you can get good bargains for carpets and fruits and then go to relax until sunset at the beach in Dibba.

Beaches 

  • Jumeirah Beach Park (5Aed, half/whole day) - that's a really nice beach with palms, showers and changing rooms.
  • JBR Beach - free but busy City-Beach
  • Burj Al Arab - Beach - This is basicly next to the Burj Al Arab. It is a nice beach with showers and it's free.
  • Nice lonely beach - with showers, changing rooms and toilets. It's hard to find though. But if you have a GPS, that are the coordinates for a Geocache hidden there: N 25° 10.768 E 055° 13.081. Here is the link to the Cache...

Just recently there are more and more deal websites for all over the world. Also Dubai has a few where you can get really good offers for nearly everything: Desert Tour, City-Tours, Hotels, Water-Parks, Dinner Cruise, ... Just check the conditions, that it is valid in the time period you need it. I bought a few of them and was always cheaper then the other people in the same group. So go for it. Here are some links:

When you are planning to do a Desert Safari and Water Park or something else. It is already payed of by one of them and you save at the next one if you won't get a deal at the above mentioned Deal-Websites...

In Dubai auf Besuch

Wir sind sehr froh darüber, dass wir bisher viele Freunde und Verwandte bei uns in Dubai begrüßen durften. Um ihnen bei ihrer Planung zu helfen, schicken wir immer eine Liste, mit Dingen, die man hier machen kann. Ich dachte, diese Liste wäre vielleicht auch für andere hilfreich. Deswegen habe ich sie hier für euch zusammengestellt. Ich habe auch versucht dazu zu schreiben wie lange es ungefähr braucht und wieviel es ungefähr kostet...

Noch ein Hinweis vorweg: In Dubai braucht immer alles viel länger als man denkt. Plant also nicht zuviel in einen Tag und genießt eher 2 Sachen voll und ganz.

Das muss man gemacht haben (laut mir und meinen Besuchern :) ):

  • Wüsten-Tour (max 300AED, ~15:00-23:00 Uhr, mit Grillbuffet, Kamelreiten, ....), z.B. mit Arabian Tours oder Desert Rangers oder z.B. mit enem unserer Freunde, Tariq, der auch bessere Preise hat und es teilweise auch auf deutsch anbietet. (Hier klicken um seine Website zu besuchen)
    Alle unsere Besucher haben diese Tour geliebt. Weiter unten gebe ich hierzu auch noch Spartips!
  • Das größte Einkaufszentrum Dubais, die "Dubai Mall"  und der höchste Turm der Welt, der "Burj Khalifa" (Das Einkaufszentrum ist umsonst, für den Turm zahlt man 100AED oder 400AED, Nachmittag/Abend) - Am besten kommt man hier abends (Sonnenuntergang) her um zu shoppen, für das Aquarium, für die Springbrunnen (Shows finden von 18 Uhr alle ganze und halbe Stunde statt und es gibt auch nachmittags 2 Shows)
    All unsere Besucher haben die Mall und die Springbrunnen gemocht. Ich persönlich finde die Aussichtsplattform auf dem "Burj Khalifa" zu teuer für das, was man bekommt. Ich finde die Wüstentour viel besser! Aber falls du auf den Bruj Khalifa hoch willst, solltest du frühzeitig buchen, dann kostet es nur 100AED statt 400 AED (hier klicken zur Website). Das einzige Risiko das man hat, wenn man das Ticket im Vorraus kauft, ist, dass die Sicht schlecht seinkann. Was ich an diesem Erlebnis aber toll fand, war die Präsentation vor und nach der Aussichtsplattform, wie der Turm gebaut wurde, was darin alles stattfindet, ...
  • Stadttour (Preis unterschiedlich, mindestens halber Tag) Die beste Möglichkeit ist einen freund zu finden, der einen herumfährt, dann kann man all das besuchen was man will :)
    Eine andere billige Option ist eine Stadttour via Metro (max. 14 AED + Taxi-Kosten)
    1. Hol dir eine Big-Bus-Tour-Karte  von Dubai (das hat alle Sehenswürdigkeiten aufgelistet, ist umsonst und man bekommt sie z.B. in der Mall of the Emirates) und eine Metro Karte (bei jeder Metro-Station) oder downloade sie (die Metro geht einmal schön durch die Stadt)
    2. Suche dir die Sehenswürdigkeiten raus, die du sehen willst, vergleich die Karten, finde die Metro-Stops in der Nähe oder fahr einfach nur mit der Metro und beobachte die Stadt beim vorbeifahren.
    3. Nehm Taxis von den Metro-Stationen zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten (mehr wo man wofür aussteigen muss später)
    Aber du kannst auch eine "Hop-on-Hop-off-Stadttour" machen, die bei allen Sehenswürdigkeiten vorbei fährt, und so kannst du alles schnell erreichen. (Kosten: ca. 300 AED) mit z.B. Big Bus Tours oder dem Wonderbus (er fährt auf dem Land und im Wasser). Weiter unten gebe ich hierzu auch noch Spartips!

Andere Sehenswürdigkeiten:

  • Mall of the Emirates - schönes Einkaufszentrum mit der Skihalle
  • Burj Al Arab - schönes Hotel, aber nur von außen zu betrachten (außer du reservierst für ein Restaurant, wo es dann einen Mindestverzehr gibt)
  • Souq Madinat Jumeirah - ein schönes Einkaufszentrum im Stil eines alten Markts. Von hier aus kann man schöne Bilder vom "Burj Al Arab machen), alles ist dort aber etwas teuer, trotzdem kann man ein schönes arabisches Abendessen genießen.
    Wir gehen normalerweise mit unserer Besuchern zum Restaurant  "Al Makan", das kann teuer werden, muss aber nicht, wenn du meine Anweisungen befolgst, kannst du für 4 Leute nur ca. 200 AED ausgeben.
    • Man bestellt zusammen und teilt das Essen (Man kann die Vorspeisen und die Hauptkurse mit kostenlosem Brot essen, das man nachbestellen kann): 3 Vorspeisen: Hummus (Kichererbsenmus), Moutabel (Auberginenmus), Fatoush (arabischer Salat), Tabouleh (Petersiliensalat) und 2 Grill-Hauptgerichte: Shish Tawouk (Hühnchen Kebab), Schaf (das Lamm schmeckt hier so gut wie nirgendswo anders in der Welt!) und Rind (Beef) oder nehmt 2 "Mixed Grills" (etwas teurer)
    • Man kann auch nach dem "Local Pop" - typische Limonade für UAE, gibt's nur in dieser Restaurantkette.
  • JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence) Walk and Beach or Marina Walk -Diese "Strandpromenade" bzw. "Hafenpromenade" ist toll für Getränke am Abend oder wenn man sich den Stadtstrand (sehr voll) anschauen will.
  • Wasserrutschenparks (100AED-200AED, für den ganzen Tag): Das ist etwas wirklich Tolles für die ganze Familie. Diese "Water Parks" in Dubai, gibt es so nicht überall. Es gibt 2 in Dubai und 2 in der Nähe. Ich mag Wild Wadi mehr als Atlantis. Wild Wadi hat etwas mehr Angebot wie Atlantis. Und dann gibt es auch noch: IceLand und Dreamland, wo ich noch nicht war. Wie man diese billiger besucht, werde ich weiter unten erwähnen.
  • Dubai Creek (kostenlos, braucht mindestens einen halben Tag) - das sollte man erlebt haben, die Altstadt Dubai's mit dem Gewürze- und Goldmarkt und dem Wassertaxi! Geh zu "Al Ghubaiba" Metro Station. Wenn ihr nach oben kommt seht ihr "Heritage Villag", eine Art Schaudorf, wie die Leute hier früher gelebt haben. Du kannst direkt dort durchgehen und am Creek weiterlaufen und mehr sehen, oder zum "Abra" (Wassertaxi) laufen. Das Abra ist ein traditionelles Wassertaxi, dass euch für 1 AED über den Creek (Landeinmündung) fährt. (fragt nach der 1 AED Abra). Auf der anderen Seite sehr ihr dann den Gewürzmarkt (spice souq) und den Goldmarkt. Auf dem Weg zur "Al Ras" Metro Station solltet ihr nach dem Heritage-House fragen. Es schaut wie die Emiratis früher gelebt haben udn es gibt kostenlosen arabischen Tee und Kaffee zum probieren!
  • Dubai Heritage Village - macht man am besten zusammen mit dem Creek, siehe oben ... 
  • Dubai museum - Auch in Creek Nähe
  • Abendessen auf einem Schiff - der Dhow Cruise (70-200AED mit Abendessen) - das ist eine tolle Art den Tag auslaufen zu lassen. Es ist am "Creek" und man kann von der "Rashid-Bin-Al-Waleed" Metro Station hin laufen oder ein Taxi nehmen. Man kann vorbuchen oder direkt dort (teurer). Wie man diese billiger besucht, werde ich weiter unten erwähnen.
  • Abu Dhabi - wenn ihr genügend Zeit hat, kann man ein Auto mieten und Abu-Dhabi besuchen. Holt euch auch hier eine Stadtkarte von der "Big Bus" Firma (z.B. in der Mall of the Emirates) und ihr seht was man dort so alles unternehmen kann. Ich empfehle eine Tagestour draus zu machen. Wenn ihr hin geht könnt ihr die Sheikh Zayed Mosche besuchen, den Strand, das Hotel Emirate Palace (keine Kurzenhosen erlaubt!) und die kleine Mall dort.
  • Dibba and Fujairah - man kann auch mit einem Mietwagen auf die andere Seite von den VAE fahren. Unsere Besucher mögen das normalerweise. Wir fahren beim Freitagsmarkt (ist jeden Tag) vorbei und kaufen dort günstig Obst, manchmal auch einen Teppich. Und dann schauen wir uns die Aussichten auf den Bergen und schlussendlich den Sonnenuntergang am Strand in Dibba an.

Strände

  • Jumeirah Beach Park (5Aed, halber oder ganzer Tag) - das ist ein sehr schöner Strandpark angelegt mit Palmen, Duschen und Umkleidekabinen.
  • JBR Beach - ein kostenloser sehr voller Stadtstrand
  • Burj Al Arab - Beach - Dieser Strand is fast neben dem Burj Al Arab. Es ist ein schöner Strand, bietet Duschen und ist umsonst.
  • Ein Geheimtip - einsam und schön gelegen, mit Duschen, Umkleidekabinen und Toiletten, aber nicht so einfach zu finde. Aber wenn du ein GPS hast dann sind das hier die Koordinaten eines Geocache-Schatzes der an diesem Strand zu finden ist: N 25° 10.768 E 055° 13.081. Und das hier ist der Link zu dem Geocache...

Wie man zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten kommt:

Geld sparen:

Mittlerweile gibt es immer mehr Webseiten die sogenannte "Deals" anbieten. Auch vor Dubai haben sie nicht halt gemacht und so nenne ich hier nur ein paar wo man gute Angebote bekommt für: Wüstentouren, Stadttouren, Hotels, Wasserparks, Eine Abendessen Cruise, ... Schaut euch aber immer die Konditionen an, ob sie auch in dem Yeitraum gültig sind, in dem ihr sie braucht. Ich habe dort schon welche gekauft und habe immer weniger gezahlt, als andere in der gleichen Tour. Ich kann es also nur empfehlen. Hier ein paar Links dazu:

Ein andere Art Geld zu sparen ist das Buch mit "Bekomm2Zahl1"-Angeboten ist The Entertainer!
Wenn du planst eine Wüstentour zu machen und in den Wasserpark zu gehen dann hat sich das Buch schon fast bezahlt. Trotzdem sind die Deals von den Webseiten oben besser, aber da gibt's eben nicht immer das was man braucht....
